Translation of Andre's Birth Certificate
Today, 22 December, 1827, at 4:00PM. for us, Cornelius Jacobus Crabeels, delegated official of the civilian records of the community of Overijse, District Brussels, appeared Andreas Lamal, thirty eight years, forester, born and living in Overijse at place community Terrest, who showed us a child born in his house at twenty one, December this year at 11:00PM out of him and of Johanna Maria Bergiers, thirty six years old, housekeeper, born in Overijse, and being his with him living spouse, and he wants to give this child the fore name Andreas. All in the presents of Honore Lamal, old thirty nine years, farmer living in Overijse, and after read out of this, being signed by the appearer and his witnesses wit us. Andreas Lamal Honore Lamal Joannes Henricus Abin and Cornelius Jacobus Crabeels.
According to the Vital Records of
Huldenberg, Belgium, Andre, Johanna, and son Andrew came to
the USA aboard Ship Pyramid 1 with Otto Adams age 58 and wife Anna Marie
age 55 and 6 children. They left Antwerp May 1856 and arrived in
New York 16 July 1856.
Andre Lamal settled in Red River in an
area called Aux Flamands (the Flemish Settlement) where he farmed.
He was drafted on 24 Nov 1862 to serve for 9 months
and mustered in the Wisconsin Drafted Military Infantry at Milwaukee, WI on
31 Dec 1862. He was 36 years old. Andre joined 34th Infantry
Co K and shortly after was transferred to Co H. He died 15 July 1863 of disease
and is buried at the Memphis National Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby County, TN in an unmarked
tomb.
